Last year Hasbro brought us the Super Villain wave with a Xenmu Build A Figure (BAF), and now we have one more bonus figure with that same Super Villains box style: Baron Zemo.

ON THE BOX: Born into greatness and great darkness, Helmut Zemo is a man of terrific and terrible genius. The 13th Baron Zemo has sworn everlasting vengeance against his family’s nemesis: Captain America!

Marvel Legends have started to impress me occasionally lately. Yes the Prices have gone up, so we should expect better, but I’m happy to pay more when the figures are this good.

The character Zemo is not a firm favourite of mine, I’ve read enough Captain America, Avengers & Thunderbolt comics to have a decent understanding of him. I think his outfit is generally sort of goofy, but for some reason I really like that purple mask, and this figure nails that particular feature. Look at it…

No seriously… Look at it!

Did you look at it properly? Try again…

OK, good work everyone. Relax.
The shaping of this sculpt is super impressive to me. The creases towards the nose as well as the sculpted and painted lines that match really well with the neck and shoulders look so good up close. The paint application on the goofy golden tiara thing even looks great to me.
Then on the arms we get pin-less double jointed elbows and well articulated hands (2 pairs) for some excellent pose-ability that comes in very handy for the included sword. The Legs are not pin-less, they are double jointed but those stylish fur boots stop the Baron from kicking his own butt. Those boots do have standard ML pivot action which is always great.

This retro-classic look is perfect to go with the recent anniversary Captain America figure from Hasbro.

The included accessories shown below are the bare minimum of what I would expect from a Marvel Legend now, especially one with No BAF.

The sword looks pretty good though the early gold accents look a bit cheap as they are slightly translucent and three of the hands being holding hands for one accessory feels a bit odd. An open hand or pointing hand would have been more useful. And I would have LOVED an extra head sculpt. Maybe a torn or dirty mask or even just a slightly different expression with the eyes.

Overall I love this figure. The accessories are only passable, the legs lack the pinless joints of the arms and that gold belt is a bit simplistic… but that mask still wins me over. I think for the price of Marvel Legends this is a really good figure that will look good on you Cap or classic avengers villains shelves.
In the US this figure is a Walggreens exclusive but in the UK its available from most quality online toy retailers. I grabbed mine from Comics and Cocktails.
