Since I started collecting Spider-Man figures a few years ago I’ve been waiting for a new release of Rhino. He is such a goofy villain but has always been one of my favourites.

None of the previous Marvel Legends releases ever really looked quite like the image of Rhino I had in my head so I was excited to get my hands on this more classic interpretation.
FROM THE CREATORS:
Former Russian mafia muscle the Rhino possesses immense strength, near-impregnable exo-armor, and a stubborn grudge against Spider-Man!.

Two things jumped right out at me when I got my hands on this figure.
- He is satisfyingly chunky
- His head sculpts look amazing

Let’s cover his size first because this figure is big. Rhino is a good deal larger than a standard 6″ figure though not as tall as a typical Marvel Legends Hulk figure. His horns take him above the 8″ mark, meaning he scales perfectly with the retro Spidey.

Despite his size he’s suprisingly light, regardless he is robust enough to easily hold another figure off the ground.

Moving on to those two head sculpts, I am very impressed with Hasbro’s work here. In fact I am really enjoying many of Hasbro’s efforts in this regard recently. The angry face is a thing to behold to the naked eye.

However under a macro lens imperfections with what I think is meant to be blood spatter around the mouth show on mine. I can live with it though. It’s only an issue when you get up very close.

I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed photographing the more relaxed face. It’s so great to get an option like this especially when taking photos, a single angry head really limits storytelling options. The sculpting and detail on this head are spot on, I couldn’t ask for better from a £24 figure.

Single jointed limbs and bulky arms and chest make for somewhat limited articulation. You won’t be getting his arms across his body for instance.

Despite the lack of double-jointed arms and legs he can easily be moved into some really good poses. Firstly his neck & head move up and down a lot, important for getting that rhino horn down and ready to attack. Perfect ankle articulation and his low centre of gravity make it very easy to pose him on one leg charging at our friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man.

Those big feet of his look great too, this guy went all in on this Rhino suit to make sure he has rhino toes. Not an area I normally notice but I really think it’s impressive that the feet have this level of detail.

Rhino comes with the two heads I mentioned and two pairs of hands, two fists and two open/grabbing. The heads are really well designed and the hands also provide the basic options you need for posing.

I’m gushing a little thus far so just to show I can be balanced I’ll nit-pick a bit here. I found the arms popped out quite a bit when I was trying to pose them, frustrating when trying to get that perfect pose. Still, better than breaking like you get with more expensive figures. *cough* Mezco *cough*
The paint work/printing on the angry face looks a bit off under close scrutiny (maybe that’s just mine?) And the main bulk of the body is fairly simplistic in colour; relying on the base colour of the plastic and sclupted detail rather than lots of additional paint details. These are all minor issues though, the figure looks fantastic in reality.

Marvel Legends Rhino is a really great figure, easily my favourite Legend of the year so far. It would be amazing if Hasbro could keep prices nearer the £24 I paid for this but I suspect that’s a pipe dream based on preorders for figures later in the year (Japanese Spidey I’m looking at you)
Regardless, Marvel Legends Rhino is great. A great figure, a great price & a great addition to the collection. GREAT! (That word has lost all meaning now)
