REVIEW: Elektra Natchios Daredevil

I’ve recently been catching up on the Chip Zdarsky run of Daredevil comics and I’m thoroughly enjoying them. So much so that I had to pick up this recent Elektra Daredevil figure. Elektra picks up the mantle of Daredevil while Matt is “busy”, something Iron Fist did 15 years ago but this is all quite different despite the surface level similarities. Anyway, I was having fun shooting her so I thought I’d do a review.

FROM Hasbro:
This collectible 6-inch scale Marvel Legends action figure is detailed to look like Elektra Natchios Daredevil from Marvel’s Daredevil: Woman Without Fear comics. Fully articulated figure features premium design and poseable head, arms, and legs. Figure comes with 2 Sai weapon accessories.

Video Review:

Here is a quick video overview of this figure.

What’s In The Box?:

The figure, two sai and that’s it. No BAF (Build A Figure), no extra hands, no alternative head sculpt, nothing else. It comes in a nice box, Card back Spider-man wave but the artwork does not seem to be an homage to old toy lines like previous waves. Anyway, my boxes go in the bin so I personally don’t mind.

Spinning

I do think it’s a shame Hasbro cannot consistently give us more accessories. Some figures come with loads of hands, this one really could have done with some fists to go with the Sai holding hands.

Articulation:

This Elektra figure has some good things going for her in this department. Double jointed limbs that are also pin-less give her a good range of articulation at the arms and legs. Unfortunatel, though, the legs don’t drop at all meaning you cut get those knees up very high. Additionally there is no joint at all at the waist.

The upper torso is the only place you can get any body movement and it barely crunches forwards at all. I still had fun posing her up though and it’s definitely good to see the female sculpts are at least getting better in some regards. Ita not that long that we rarely got double joints never mind pinless doubles.

Details

The figure suffers from a lack of paint detail, true of many marvel legends these days. If it had a slight wash to bring out some of the sculpting details it would look so much better. Imagine just a little shading in the creases of the scarf or the ribbing of the armour. As it is, we get a fairly flat black and red which still looks pretty good since it’s a striking character design.

On the flip side of that, the head looks great, Hasbro face sculpts continue to impress and the paint here is actually good. Shame we only get one head, a face with an angry or battle ready face would have been particularly useful.

The Scarf piece fits well with the head and while it restricts movement of the head somewhat, it’s worth it because it looks very nice, the head tucks in perfectly but you can  also lift the head so it looks like she has lowered her scarf.

The scarf and belt sash are both sculpted as though they are blowing in the wind, thankfully in the same direction and I think that’s a better choice than just hanging straight down. It definitely makes for more interesting photos.

Final Thoughts:

I had a lot of fun with this figure, I almost always do with Marvel Legends. But with prices creeping up I do feel like the value is not quite there. A slightly more advanced paint application and an extra pair of hands would really have sweetened the deal. Add waist articulation on top of that then I would be happy paying slightly more.

As it is its a fun figure that does a good job of capturing the basic look of a modern version of this classic character held.back by a few niggles that are becoming common with all legends.

Score 3/5

Photos

I feel like I was quite hard on this figure that I actually quite like. For some reason it feels better than the sum of its parts and I think that’s partly down to the fun I had taking photos of it. So here are a bunch of extra photos.
