Iron Fist

BLOG: Iron Fist 50th Anniversary Special

I don’t usually write about comics here, aside from mentioning them in my reviews of action figures or LEGO sets where relevant. In the last few days however I actually read a comic on week of release and I feel the need to write down my thoughts. Most people who follow me here or on…

Iron Fist Smash

I’ve always shied away from customising action figures. I’m not a very artistic or crafty person, and my painting ability is probably on par with pre-schoolers. But… with very few Iron Fist Toys being released I decided to scratch that itch with my first custom figure. Iron Fist Hulk. First of all I saw a…

IRON FIST: LEGO x MEZCO

After creating a separate Instagram account for my Action Figure photos I decided it would be fun to occasionally shoot the same scene with LEGO and with 1:12 scale figs. This was my first Iron Fist themed one so it seemed like a good one to do a quick blog post on. The first thing…

NARRATIVE: Iron Fist VS Cyclops

Crossover Some early Action figure photography from me. Mezco One:12 Iron Fist – my first ever Mezco and my first Mythic Legions figure. I originally picked up some Legions to use as some generic bad guys. Unfortunately I discovered they are amazing so I collect those too now! Anyway, I needed a cool enemy for…

Why Iron Fist?

Anyone who has followed me on social media will know I have an affinity for the Marvel character Iron Fist.

He could be described as a D list hero who, who has not managed to hold down a regular comic book series for many years and starred in one of Marvel Studios worst reviewed productions. So why Iron Fist?

I love Iron Fist for two main reasons:

1. Nostalgia sweet spot (Superheroes/Kung Fu)

2. The immortal Iron Fist by David Aja, Ed Brubaker & Matt Fraction

Growing up I mainly read spiderman comics, I didn’t have loads of cash so that was all I really read. Iron Fist guest starred in one particular story (Maximum Carnage) and I loved him immediately. I also really liked watching Bruce Lee, Jet Li and Jackie Chan movies in my teenage years.

So later in life, with a job and able to buy my own comics I got back into them. catching up on post 2000’s Marvel. Then Marvel released the critically acclaimed Immortal Iron Fist. The story really leaned into the Kung Fu side of things with a great Fantasy Super Hero angle. And the art… the art was amazing (so good I now have lots of it tattooed on my arm!) David Aja made me realise not all super hero art had to be the same, it could be stylish and simple yet more emotive.

Since then I’ve collected all sort of Iron Fist figures and toys and of course gone back and read all Iron Fist comics!

Anyway, this amazing art work coupled with a great story that also hit my nostalgia sweet spot means that Iron Fist is now imprinted on me as the greatest fictional character of all time (OK, maybe not – but he is my favourite)
