DOUBLE REVIEW: Agents of SHIELD

I recently got my hands on a bunch of Hasbro Marvel Legends S.H.I.E.L.D figures. The S.H.I.E.L.D Agent Trooper 2 Pack and the Quake/Maria Hill figure from the Controller wave. I had a lot more fun with both than I expected to so I decided to do a combined review for them. Before we dive in, this video gives a quick overview of the figures.

OK, for more detail, read on. Lets start with the 2 Pack

FROM THE CREATORS:
S.H.I.E.L.D. Agents defend Earth and its people from groups that pose advanced technological—and sometimes supernatural—threats. Build your own super-spy agency with new Marvel Legends S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Trooper 2-Pack

The 2 pack features 2 (duh!) figures that are identical apart from the head. The pack includes 5 different heads including two helmets (one red visor and one silver) and 3 un-masked heads in different skin tones. You also get a selection of hands and weapons – way more options than anything I’ve seen in other army builder releases.

On Duty

I particularly like that there are enough hands to make sure they can both be holding weapons with both hands. And you also have a pair of pistols and assault rifles so you can kit your two agents out identically (except for the head of course)

The face sculpts are pretty good for generic troops

The helmets are my favourite heads here despite the quality of the un-helmeted heads. I just like my troops to be faceless I guess.

The figures have a good amount of detail all over, the shield logo is nicely printed on the shoulder, the belts have painted detail for buckles and the blue and white are exactly what I want for a comic book SHIELD agent.

The guns are pretty basic but at least they are a good colour and they certainly do the trick for my needs.

My main issue with these troops is getting them to stand. I found myself getting quite frustrated trying to get them in most positions I wanted them in, Even basic standing up straight positions.

Despite having good articulation the feet did just not want to sit nicely in a flat position and the legs seemed to want to bend slightly. It’s not a major issue but it was annoying while trying to take photos.

Despite those frustrations I still like these figures. The details are well done and they have more options than I could reasonably expect. Lets move on the the next figure now…

FROM THE CREATORS:
Able to project powerful seismic waves, Daisy Johnson aka Quake is the first of Nick Fury’s Secret Warriors, and one of his most trusted operatives. This 6-inch Legends Series Marvel’s Quake figure features premium detailing and accessories, including alt hands, 2 pistols, and alternate Maria Hill head!

Pic and Text from Hasbro Pulse

Quake, or Daisy Johnson, is the primary figure named on the box, but I actually bought this because it doubles as Maria Hill. You get 2 heads and the gauntlets that are specific to Quake are easily removed. In addition to the gauntleted hands you also get two pairs of white hands, gun holding hands and open palms.

This figure is part of the Controller wave and therefore includes parts for the Controller BAF (Build A Figure) . I’m not interested in that BAF so I’m not going to be keeping these parts and therefore not talking about them (any more).

Magic hands

The reason why I decided to review these two sets together was because this Quake figure is essentially a female army builder. remove the quake specific parts and throw on a spare female head from other figures and you have generic female SHIELD agents. too.

The two heads that come with this figure are excellent though. Both unique and very clear (if you are familiar with the comics) who they are supposed to be.

Also, unlike many Marvel Legends female figures, this one is actually exceptionally put together. Using a recent body mould (First seen on Shriek) we not only get double jointed legs and arms but they are also pinless! So they look great in photos, pose really well and I even found it easy to stand up. Though I did use a small stand for some of these articulation photos. She does not stand on one foot very easily.

It would have been nice to get a holster for her sidearm like the male SHIELD agents but other than that I cant really complain about anything here. If I wanted to be greedy then I guess it would have been good to get a helmet head to make this a true army builder.

The pistol fits the holding hands perfectly
For this photo, I made the exposure longer and I shook the figures and the background

The colours of the female SHIELD uniform match the male figures perfectly too. That sounds obvious but I think it’s worth pointing out since they are all a different colour from the older SHIELD agent releases.

Happy feet

To wrap up, I like these figures quite a lot. My Marvel Legends collection is focussed on Spider-man figures and the odd other favourite… however, I have found myself building mini armies of what I class as henchmen. I’ve got a selection of Hydra, Hand and AIM goons to use as fodder for my heroes in photos. Now, thanks to these agents, I also have some good-guy goons for bad-guys to wail on.

Build an army!

If I had to compare these figures I would rate Quake above the Trooper two pack, she feels a little bit more high end and is much more fun to pose up. Both figures are good quality though and fit well together on the shelf.

I picked up my Quake figure from Comics & Cocktails and the Trooper 2 Pack from Hasbro Pulse

If you made it this far thanks so much for reading, please let me know what you thought of the review and / or the figures at the bottom of the page. But first, more photos including some size comparisons with other figures. Thanks Again!

Buckethead unsurprisingly taller
