REVIEW: LEGO Jay’s Golden Dragon Motorbike

Of all LEGOs themes, Ninjago is the one that keeps surprising me with Interesting new minifigures. The latest theme, “Crystallized” is no exception so I just had to pick up this small set from the latest wave.

FROM THE CREATORS: LEGO® NINJAGO® Jay’s Golden Dragon Motorbike (71768) playset has everything ninja fans aged 7 and up need to recreate gripping scenes from the NINJAGO: Crystallized TV series. This NINJAGO bike toy features a golden dragon’s head with a moving mouth and golden side panels.

The set has 137 pieces, most of which are used on the “Golden Dragon Motorbike”, the rest are reserved for Golden Dragon Jay, a Vengestone Warrior and a small spider mech build.

Lets Roll

As is standard for a Ninjago set, the best thing here is the bad guy. Vengestone Warrior is a sort of Crystallized dragonborn creature. His head piece uses some trans pink elements mixed with the gun metal grey and it looks phenomenal. Especially when you get a bit of light in there. He also has a trans pink arm, leg and weapon which really add to this “Crystallized” look.

Dragon?

He is accompanied by a small spider sidekick who appears to be powered by crystal. I love small builds like this. Very simple but because it has 6 legs it’s fun to pose.

Spider robot is sorta cute

Now usually the Ninja are the most boring part of a Ninjago set. I’ve said it myself numerous times in past Ninjago reviews. Not this time. Not only is the Jay figure really interesting but he has some really great wings that mix gold and trans yellowish colours.

Fly my pretty

Using specialised parts these wings look so much better than wings I’ve seen in the past for Marvel Vulture figures. They are nice and big but the figure can still stand while wearing them.

Wingspan

The minifig itself also uses some trans yellow parts mixed with gold. His helmet while not as impressive as the Vengestone Warrior dragon head, it’s still a very cool mix of solid and translucent plastic.

Both figures have excellent prints, even the prints on the trans elements are well done.

The bike itself is not that Interesting to me but I can appreciate it for what it is. It’s a good, solid toy. The build was actually fun, it’s sturdy and rolls well, 9 year old me would have loved it. Only 3 stickers too so that’s also a plus.

Overall I really enjoyed this set. Building was fun even if the bike will get dismantled for parts. The figures are the real stars here. I guess it’s a little pricey at £18 especially when Ninjago usually brings the bargains. Still, I’m happy with the purchase and now I want more dragon themed accessories from the theme!
